Audrey Hepburn Still Setting Trends Today
Audrey Hepburn might have passed away a long time ago, but her legacy lives on, particularly in the fashion industry. She was not only a legendary actress, but also a fashion icon.
The simple grace and elegance of her manners made her one of the most beloved Hollywood leading ladies and also one of the greatest influences on fashion designers around the world.
Who can forget the trend setting over-sized sunglasses, the little black dresses, the colorful Capri pants and the flat ballet shoes that Audrey wore in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s? In fact, the sunglasses became so popular that wire frames, which were in vogue when the movie came out, became virtually extinct within a few years. And the black dress of course is a staple of any wardrobe, even today.
Audrey was also a trend setter in jewellery and makeup. She is famous for bringing pearls into the mainstream of fashion accessories. They say that fashion is a cycle, but it is hard to think of a time when her little black dress and pearls have ever been out of fashion.
Interestingly, the movie that started so many fashion trends was originally written to star not Audrey Hepburn, but Marilyn Monroe.
Unlike the curvaceous Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall, Audrey had a gorgeous, tall and elegant figure that fashion designers loved to dress up. She was always partial to simple and graceful cuts, turtle necks and trench coats, while staying away from bold prints and bright colors.
When it came to accessories, Audrey had a preference for colored scarves and wide belts – a trend that persists to this day and is as fresh as ever.
The Big And Best Of Summer Handbags
Most women seem to get quickly bored with their handbags and have the need to change them frequently. This is because handbags are not only useful, but they are also one of the most popular fashion accessories. Handbags come in a staggering variety of styles, colours and prices.
Some of them have simple designs, while others are intricate and elaborate. They can be made out of inexpensive material or leather of the highest quality. Hobos, Tote bags and Satchels are all types of handbags that are popular today among fashion-conscious women.
Karl Lagerfeld has taken this years range by storm not least of all with his handbag that is a duplicate of a Chanel shopping bag complete with large logo. Despite its slightly tacky appearance it is already one of the summer’s must have accessories.
CHîa has an exiting new range that includes retro designs, based on old perfume bottles designer June Chang went out on something of a limb with that idea but the company is now reaping the rewards as the bags fly off the shelves of Verve, Delfino, Boutique Fifty-Two, Blue Bag or any other store that still has a little stock left.
Another trend has been the move back to big, big is back with oversize handbags again taking pride of place in many great collections, but you have to wonder how long this re-emergence will last as at the end of the day these big-is-better bags seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive.
Online stores are also useful in case you can not find the ‘must have’ bag you need, or if you do not live near a major fashion centre. One big drawback is that you can not touch the articles in an online store, on element that some women will never be able to move away from.
