When it is Paris, you have only two widespread notions about the city. One, that it is counted as one of the most romantic cities in the worlds and two, that is the most fashionable of all the cities in the world. And even if love and fashion may not be inter-linked, people with a love for fashion, do flock to Paris this time of the year.
It becomes a pilgrimage site for every fashion lover when models and fashion designers descend on Paris to attend the Paris Fashion Week. The most looked forward to event in the social and fashion calendar, the Paris fashion week, this year too, was an event to remember, even with its hits and misses.
But even before you can sit down and categorise what was hot and what was not at the Paris Fashion Week, there were truly some things which inadvertently got your attention this year. From Gisele Bündchen walking the runway for Balenciaga, Karl Lagerfeld’s supermarket runway to the green lips and the padded costumes of Comme des Garcons, and from a toned down Dior to Kendall Jenner walking the walk for Givenchy and Chanel, Paris Fashion Week 2014 seemed to be in its full bloom.
Among the other mentionable occurrences of the Paris Fashion Week are the David Lynch created haunting set and music for Kenzo’s show, race rumours that a certain Ajak Deng might have been ousted from Balmain, because of being black, a mod Valentino, models appearing for Iris van Herpen were packed in plastic bags, and Louis Vuitton welcomed aboard a new designer, Nicolas Ghesquière.
But if you are categorically looking for the hits and the misses of this year’s Paris Fashion Week, you will be surprised to know that the hits included Dries Van Noten, Christophe Lemaire, Undercover, Haider Ackermann, Junya Watanabe, Givenchy, Valentino and Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Alexander McQueen among others and the misses included Rochas, Balenciaga and Balmain. While the winners can raise their glasses, for the losers, there is always a next time.
