On the runways this season, a wide range of handbags were displayed by the models.

Traditional clutches to unusually large totes were seen accessorizing and making a new style statement in the spring/ summer 2013 fashion shows across the globe.

Let’s catch up on the latest in the world of bags and baggage.

Here are a few highlights from the catwalks of the season:

Totes

Totes

From regular to the big sized totes, this season had every tote on display. But it was the Chanel hula hoop tote by Karl Lagerfeld that was most talked about. Wondering how you could lug it around. Karl has a demo up on the YouTube for women to know how to use it. He has managed to do it with quite a bit of panache.

Handled Bags

Handled Bags

This style seems to the most popular with all the designers, this season. From classic models to the artistically cut out ones, handled bags were seen in every hue and shape on the ramp. You could also see sculpted hard bags, graphic patterns and raffia creations in this variety. However, it was the chessboard print bag with a floral motif that gathered the maximum likes.

This variety had a lot to showcase in terms of the variety of styles. Studded, printed, see-through, block colored and bejeweled evening bags were all a part of the show.

Clutches

Clutches

No fashion show is complete without the display of clutches. Clutches and red carpet events go hand-in-hand. All eyes were fixed on this section of bags. The classic studded styles were given different shapes this season. Cuffs matching the clutch were seen making a style statement. Valentino introduced the clear see through version of clutches; while Carven had his models walk with hard etched ones.

Cross Shoulder Bags

These bags made a comeback this season. The neat, small ones from Lanvin stole the show. Donatella showcased cute textured leather ones in this style.  The fruit inspired designs stood out of the crowd and are set to make style statements in this line of bags.  The bag that took the award under the fun bags category was the floppy- eared bunny cross shoulder bag designed by Mandy Coon.

Backpacks

Backpacks

While most of the shows focused at showcasing bags for the fairer sex, there were some which also paid attention to the men folk. Neat backpacks and rucksacks made a comeback this season. Tan and nude colors were most preferred colors by the designers. The colored leather sporty ones need a special mention for brining in creativity to this style.
